The wife of Chinese human rights activist Guo Feixiong, Zhang Qing, began a hunger strike outside the United Nations Headquarters in New York on Tuesday.
Guo, whose real name is Yang Maodong but is better known by his pen name, is a prominent activist in China. He was sentenced to six years in prison in November 2015 for protesting against media censorship outside the offices of the liberal newspaper Southern Weekly in 2013. He has been on an indefinite hunger strike since May 9, demanding better treatment in jail and political change in China.

Zhang arrived in New York on Monday from Texas with her two children. She is taking part in a 24-hour relay hunger strike held outside the UN headquarters that began on May 20.
“What can I do if not fight to the end?” she asked, according to US-backed Radio Free Asia.
